Making My Online Diet Healthier - The Grand Pinterest Reorganization

Lately, I've been very inspired by Sister Diane's "Making My Online Diet Healthier" series over on Craftypod. I am self admittedly very scatterbrained - and unless my life, online or otherwise, is hyper-organized, it can quickly devolve into a big, hot mess!

I think one of things that I've been struggling with as a blogger, is that Geek+Nerd started as "craft blog," but that is incredibly limiting for someone like me that has a variety of interests. Really - Geek+Nerd has turned out to be about ME, and crafting is just one tiny little piece of that.

One of my favorite blogs, A Beautiful Mess, recently did a redesign. I fell in love with the breakdown of their blog navigation, and it set me to thinking about what I write about here on G+N and what I like to share on the internet...

One of the challenges of deciding what to share, is that I struggle with narrowing my focus. There are so many projects to do, things to cook, books to read, music to listen to, etc. I keep bookmarks on my laptop, I used to have a del.icio.us account, but I would argue that Pinterest, for me, is the best visual way to organize that je ne sais quoi that gets my blogging mojo going.

SO - I am working on streamlining my Pinterest account, so that I can merge the multiple ways that I bookmark my interests in one comprehensive spot. I used A Beautiful Mess' navigation as a jump-off point for the organization, breaking it down further where my obsessive compulsive need to organize required more nitty gritty detail to be satisfied.

I know that some think of Pinterest as a mind-melting, time waster, (plus there are all of those pesky copyright infringement issues), but I am excited to use it as a powerful tool to wrangle my ever jumbled thoughts. Now that I've undertaken this grand reorganization of my Pinterest account, I am able to visually see themes, that will hopefully inspire themes to emerge here on Geek+Nerd.

What about you? What are your thoughts on Pinterest? Cool tool? Or time suck?

Renaissance woman: A woman who does many different things very well.

Or as my sister puts it: a person who is never bored because she is curious about everything!

This, my dear, is you, my sisters, and myself which lead to the every growing list of things we wish to conquer well and enjoy.

Pinterest, for me (and I pin for me as well as for a small group of people who follow me) is a place where I can access my interests quickly and in a very organized manner. I am constantly reorganizing my boards. I don't like more than 150 or pins in each category, so I need to keep micro organizing.

One of my favourite boards is "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!" wherein I place the pins I've completed, whew!

You got an entire lifetime to explore; why not keep a living file where you can go for inspiration and accomplishment?

I love Pinterest and the speed visual bookmarking provides! It's 10x times faster than looking at itty-bitty flavicons and URLs in a bookmark folder.

And woah - I just made my boards as I went along - very organized of you!

I have recently broken my Crafts category down into sub-boards (What was I thinking, only one board?!) to stuff like "Crafts, Home" and "Crafts, Accessories & Clothes". That's really helped me tame the beast.

And yes, it's a time suck, too. ;)

I have so many starred and bookmarked items now that the thought of added a visual site as well is a little scary.Of course I'm always a few years behind in jumping on the bandwagon so for now I'll just spy on your list(ha ha)until I can make a decision.
