Another one of my 29 before 30 goals was to make homemade ice cream. While I was on blog-vacation, I was perusing the shelves at Barnes and Noble when the Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream Book caught my eye. I thought to myself -
"Self, you have plenty of ice cream recipes bookmarked online, in your massive collection of Living/Readymade/BUST back issues, etc. You do not need another cook book!"
Then I read the first line of the Humphry Slocombe Story -
"Hey, bitches, thanks for buying our ice cream book." Then I thought to myself -
"Self, you are buying this ice cream book."
Geniuses...
So, clearly to rationalize my purchase, I had to get going on goal #14 as soon as possible!
For my first ice cream making adventure, I chose a recipe that required me to buy only one ingredient (cream). Everything else I already had in my house.
The chosen recipe: Honey Thyme
It was friggin' delicious. The consistency was a little softer than I would've liked, but it was also my first attempt, so I'm not going to boo-hoo over it for too long. Taste trumped texture, so I am deeming my first effort a success!
I highly recommend the Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream Book. If you'd like to buy your own copy, I encourage you to order online from the awesomely independent River Run Book Store. River Run is local to me, but they ship for free anywhere in the country! Oh, and if you want to learn more about Jake and Sean, the awesome dudes behind Humphry Slocombe check out their website.

Having been fortunate enough to be in the area before G/N tasted this ice cream into non existence,I can concur that it was indeed friggin awesome.
Sounds awesome! Glad your Self fell victim to the inscription. :-) And good for you for checking another one off the list!
I've made homemade ice cream a couple of times and it does tend to be softer than store-bought - but they put a whole bunch of crap in theirs so that it stays the same texture even if it gets a little melty. Martha's got a great recipe for Earl Grey ice cream, too, which is freaking outstanding.
Glad you're back online. :-)
YUM! I need to add this to my list. :)
