A little challenge

After yesterday's cookies for breakfast fiasco, I felt considerably snackish all day. I had approximately 8,000 cups of coffee, was cranky pants, and was so hungry by the time I started my commute home I *HAD* to stop at Wendy's for dinner.

Gross, gross, gross - all around.

So, I've decided that something has got to give. I've been thinking about changing my breakfast habits, and have recently been inspired by a number of friends plunging into diet-ville for the New Year. However, as a former dancer/diet obsessed human being, I'm not a fan of diets. Drastic does not work for me. What I AM a fan of is small, sustainable change - as evidenced by my positive experience with Couch to 5K.

This is my challenge - drink a smoothie for breakfast every day for the remainder of January - thus consuming more fruits and vegetables. Pretty easy, right? I think I can do this for a month.

First up is the "Green Machine" smoothie from Whole Living's January/February 2012 issue:

Green machine smoothie, ready to blend Green machine smoothie

Ingredients: Romain lettuce, kale, parsley, mango, pineapple, ginger, water

The verdict: Too much parsley for my taste, but otherwise, yum.

Awesome! One of the things Tom had wanted for a long time was a juicer--got him one for Christmas, and he made his first juice last night (kiwi-grape-apple-pear; that was what we had on hand)! It was DELICIOUS! :) He too has a little bit of a hard time making sure he gets his fruits and veggies--however you can commit to getting those nutrients, it's great!

As a former dancer myself, I too am not one to jump on the diet wagon. Exercise and good nutrition are the only formula that have worked for me. As a mom now, I do find it harder to get the fruits and veggies that I need. I am a big fan of In-Liven and Berry Radical. Two organic freeze dried nutritional supplements that I add to my daily routine to make it a bit easier. I love the In-Liven in a glass of mango juice, and the Berry Radical in a fruit smoothie. They made such a difference in my energy level and overall health, that I became an independent representative of Miessence to get them at a big discount. If you want to find out more at www.MiBetterChoices.com and look under health care.

Oh Miss Sarah, you made me audible giggle while alone (well me and Martha) in the room!
And some comments:
First Thanks for the wisdom on the dancer and the diet!
Second: Thanks for the honesty about the "too much parsley" smoothie! (seriously you are the first person I know who has ever said any thing other than "THESE ARE SO FREAKING TASTY!" -sorry, sometimes a tad too much parsley or whatever is just too much!)
Third: I got some "super red" and "super green" (both supposed to be good for you) at Trader Joes pretty cheap. I like them both but the red gives me heartburn 'cuz I'm old, so for me it's a super red smoothie with a zantac chaser.

You go my sweet! I love you to the moon and back. your Jewish/Mormon* west coast mama.

*and no, I'm not voting for you know who. ; ) seems like a nice guy I just disagree with him 80+% of the time.

I don't do the drastic diet thing either and I am also doing smoothies for breakfast! I've had so many positive effects from it - I hope you are, too :o)
