29 before 30

Last Sunday I turned 29 years old.

29 before 30

28, for lack of a better word, SUCKED! Therefore, I am completely ready to turn the page on last year, and start a new, fun, (((hopefully))) better chapter!

In the spirit of the birthday lists that Elsie makes each year over at A Beautiful Mess, I decided to make one for myself. The following are 29 things that I would like to do before I turn 30. Some of them are small goals, some large. It is not likely that I will get through this entire list...but I believe that writing these wishes out is a small step towards actualization!

29 before 30

1. Start a travel fund
2. Go on a road trip.
3. Visit a state that I have never been to before.
4. Make a pilgrimage to Red Velvet.
5. Get new head shots
6. Prepare monologues/Re-build my rep book
7. Audition.
8. Work on the SUPER-SECRET musical theatre project.
9. Give my bedroom a makeover.
10. Restore the make-up table I found by the side of the road.
11. Throw the 3rd annual Christmas card writing party
12. Throw another Naked Lady Party
13. Entertain more.
14. Make homemade ice cream
15. Make homemade doughnuts
16. Try a new recipe at least once a month
17. Sew a piece of clothing for myself.
18. Finish the bird skirt UFO
19. Knit a sweater
20. Sew a quilt
21. Garden
22. Buy some decent running shoes
23. Complete Couch to 5k
24. Run a 5k
25. Make a plan conquer my debt/build credit
26. Strive to have an internet free day per week.
27. Learn to tune a guitar
28. Make a mix tape every month September
29. Print, frame and live with more photos

Of course I'll blog as I merrily tick as many of these off the list as possible! Wish me luck! And here's to being 29 and feelin' fine!

I don't know s#%t about beer: Throwback Brewery Tasting

Chrissie and Andy

This past Sunday I had the pleasure of attending the soft opening of Throwback Brewery's brand spankin' new tasting room with my friends CP and Andy. I was completely unaware of Throwback Brewery until a few days ago, but thanks to the enlightening magic of social media, I found myself relishing in a delightful tasting event!

Chrissie samples the Maple-Kissed Wheat Porter

First of all, the tasting was fabulously economical little outing. You could either drink your samples for free (from a plastic cup) or purchase a 5 oz tasting glass for $5 or a 21.5 oz pint glass for $7, then drink all of your samples for free. CP splashed out and bought a pint glass for each of us, then the tasting commenced.

Throwback Brewery's Taps

There was a menu, with a specific order, (which of course I forgot to grab), but all in all we sampled five beers; Hog Happy Hefeweizen, Dippity-Do American Brown Ale, Spicy Bohemian Pilsener, Hopstruck IPA and Maple-Kissed Wheat Porter. I did not find a single one disappointing. Here is what I remember thinking:

Hog Happy Hefeweizen: NOM.

Dippity-Do American Brown Ale: Double NOM! This would be delicious with a burger and big stack of fries.

Spicy Bohemian Pilsener: Sa-weet JESUS! Are you kidding me?! According to Throwback Brewery's Blog the Spicy Bohemian is "a seasonal that we do, which is our base pilsener recipe, dry-hopped with jalapeƱos." At first glance, this sounded thoroughly gross to me. I am not a huge spicy fan, and I tend to steer clear of food stuffs containing spicy peppers. HOWEVER - this beer was love at first whiff. It smells like smokey roasted peppers fresh from the oven. The aftertaste left the ever so slightest pleasant heat in my throat and chest. Major winner - I brought a growler of this beer home with me!

Hopstruck IPA Wow - I was extremely impressed that I liked this. I will admit, of the five tastings, the IPA was probably my least favorite. However, traditionally, I *loathe*despise*hate* IPAs, and it takes a damn good one to impress me. The Hopstruck has a very distinct citrus-y, almost perfume-y aftertaste, that reminded me of one of my favorite liqueurs, St. Germain.

Maple-Kissed Wheat Porter - The description of this beer is what drew me to Throwback's tasting in the first place. Maple? NOM. Alcohol? YAY. Maple+Alcohol=NOM-YAY! This is hands down the best porter that I've ever had in my life. All of the delicious earthiness of a dark beer without the bitter *I just licked dirt* aftertaste. I am smitten and in love. A growler of this beer came home with me too!

Eager beer drinkers gather for a taste of Throwback Brewery's tasty brews.

In closing - locals, you had better check Throwback Brewery out! If my glowing reviews have not been enough to convince you, consider this:

* Throwback Brewery is woman owned and operated by two very nice gals Annette and Nicole.

* Throwback Brewery strives to create beer that is sourced 100% from local ingredients and enjoyed in the local New England area.

* Throwback beers are unfiltered and hand bottled.

So go...no really RUN! You will not be sorry.

Currently, the brewery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Many thanks to Annette and Nicole for hosting such a lovely event!

Dance-spiration Friday: Rocky Horror Show LIVE!

dance-spiration friday

Remember when I said that I was in two shows? The second is Rocky Horror Show LIVE running at Seacoast Repertory Theatre in Portsmouth, NH, every Friday and Saturday at midnight through August.

I am one of the "Phantoms" as they are called in the script, however, fans of the cult classic movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show might know them better as the "Transylvanians" or "Trannies." I have been a HUGE fan for ages, which you can read more about here: First up, ROCKY!

In that old Rocky post, I said the following:

"I. love. Rocky Horror. I want to BE in the live stage show. And when my stomach is flat and I feel cool enough to prance around half naked I will...

Well, umm...my stomach is definitely NOT flat, but maybe I'm cool enough now? Maybe? Anyways, this year, I auditioned and got in. So I thought I would share a few backstage/production photos from our opening weekend, which was last week.

Happy Sarah getting ready to perform...

Our director, Johnnie, blowing glittered air kisses for good luck!

You put your hands on your hips and bring your knees in tight!

We are FEELIN' it here! Let's do the Time Warp again!

And of course...since every Dance-spiration Friday has had a video, I must pay homage to the original...

I. AM. LOVING. LIFE!

Busy and Blonde

Still busy...but wanted to pop in and share that I am now B-L-O-N-D-E!

Angles

Looks like a wig to me, but it's real!

SHORT and BLONDE!

I got my honey-blonde, angled bob from Laura over at Acorn Organic Salon. If you are local to the Seacoast area, you simply must check Acorn out. It's the best!

Now, I had to invest in a straightening iron to keep my cut that straight, but it also looks pretty cute au natural. My hair is naturally wavy, so this is what happens when it air dries, and I scrunch a little pomade into it...

Blonde and Wavy

Blonde and Wavy

Not too shabby!

I've never ever gone this light before! It looked like a wig to me at first! What is the craziest thing that you've ever done with your hair?
