This year, I chose iconic Mexican artist Frida Kahlo as the inspiration for my Halloween costume.

I enjoy Halloween, but I do not go crazy over it like some of my friends. My main criteria for a costume is that it has to be something that no one else at the party will be. This excludes things like (slutty) princess, (slutty) fairy, (slutty) nurse, etc. (Side rant - when did Halloween become all about being slutty-insertacharacterhere?!) It also has to be something that I can construct almost completely out of things that I already own. This costume cost me absolutely nothing!
Here is the full Frida ensemble:

I enjoy getting into the details of a character, and I feel like Frida is recognizable for two important traits. Of course, there is the uni-brow...

...and the very elaborate hair-do.

This costume garnered some funny reactions when worn out and about in public. People either a) had no idea who Frida Kahlo was b) thought I was Carmen Miranda or c) greeted me with shouts of "Frida!" and "That's awesome!"
Obscure? Maybe a little, but for $0, I was pretty pleased with my tribute!
More on the Halloweeny shenanigans to follow!
P.S. If you celebrated, what did you dress up as for Halloween? Have a picture online? Leave me a link in the comments!

I heart Frida, and you looked amazingly like her! =)
AWESOME!!!!
Sorry you aren't feeling well.I didn't even know. You do make the perfect Frida.
That is PERFECT! You rock! :D
Lovely costume! I know what you mean about avoiding slutty costumes (which are always so popular!). I decided just the other day to be Frida Kahlo this year (she is my favorite artist, after all). Here's hoping my costume will be half as successful as yours!
